The Sonoma County Chapter of the National Audubon Society was established in 1967 as a non-profit organization promoting education, enjoyment, and protection of the natural world, especially birds.

February 2026 Speakers

Our monthly meetings begin at 6:30 PM on the third Monday of the month at the First United Methodist Church, 1551 Montgomery Drive, Santa Rosa. They are free to attend and open to the public.

Jackie Sones
Going Under Cover: Camouflage in Coastal California
This talk will highlight amazing adaptations related to camouflage drawing on examples from local coastal species including birds, mammals, fish, and lots of invertebrates! Jackie Sones started working for the University of California’s Bodega Marine Reserve in 2005 and has served as Research Coordinator there for over 20 years.  Many of you might know Jackie through her popular blog, Natural History of Bodega Head (https://bodegahead.blogspot.com/), where she has been sharing photographs and natural history information about flora and fauna in western Sonoma County and other coastal areas for over 14 years.  Although she led birding trips for Mass Audubon for many years, much of Jackie’s time since moving to California has focused on marine invertebrates.

Bring binoculars and wear outdoor clothing suitable for the weather forecast. Our outings are free for members and the public. (We may have binoculars to loan for your outing.)

Upcoming Junior Audubon Events

March 7th, 2026 9am-11am
Junior Audubon:  Musée de Leveque, 
This Junior Audubon activity will take place in the Natural History Museum at Peter Leveque’s Garage. Participants will have the opportunity to observe, handle, and measure preserved specimens. A highlight will be the observation and discussion of an actual Bengal Tiger. Tiger tea and woodpecker cookies will be served. Please invite parents, grandparents, family and friends. This museum is only open to the public on March 7th, 2026 from 9am-11am. You will find Musée de Leveque at 62 Hop Ranch Circle, Santa Rosa. RSVP to Peter at (707) 542-8946.
